Unable to Boot

Postby itsthejoker » Sat Jan 23, 2016 2:17 am

Good morning / afternoon / evening!

I'm very excited to start playing with my new Pixie, but I'm running into a launch problem; namely, I can't seem to get it to boot. Here's what I've tried:

- 2 wall-based power supplies, 5v 1A each, along with USB power by plugging it into my computer
- flashed both PixieDebianWheezy image and PixieUbuntu image
- 2 different microSD cards
- tried top and bottom SD card slot independently
- tried with no SD card

In all trials, it does the exact same thing (even when starting without an SD card!):

- the green power light comes on at the end of the board
- the red optical audio light comes on
- LED3, LED2, and LED1 (the blue, green, and orange ones) come on extremely faintly, almost impossible to see
- STATUS lights up, and NETSTATUS flashes ~14 times, about once every two seconds
-- STATUS is on full while NETSTATUS flashes; after NETSTATUS is done flashing, both go out

I am unable to check UART output because my cable is the wrong configuration (4 in a row) for this board and I didn't notice before I got it

Any ideas or things I should try? I can post a video if it would help.

Hello, itsthejoker,

The board must be booted with the image from the Wiki:

wiki/index.php?title=PixieBoard_Pro_Archlinux_Image_into_SD
wiki/index.php?title=PixiePro:_Technical_Info#OS_Images

The card must be placed in the top slot only, if you need help with this let us know, at this moment PixiePro supports the Arch image only, but Ubuntu is coming soon.

As for the supply, under full load PixiePro might exceed 1A (booting should be no problem), please consider using a 5V 1.5A or bigger supply.

Ah, of course! Wrong image. Well, hopefully this will aid someone else as well.

I did try my benchtop power supply yesterday, but was unable to edit my post at the time because it hadn't been approved; I had the same results at the time. I'm currently flashing the Arch build you linked to and we'll give it another shot. Thanks!

It's understandable, I just added a notice to the PixiePre images, hopefully this will help someone else.

Let us know if you need help with anything else
